The House of Worship has long been instrumental in preserving our identity, culture, and sacred relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, grounded in Torah. At Congregation Or-Ami, we affirm that true service—within community, family, and individual life—begins with obedience to the commandment of Deuteronomy 6:4–5: “Hear, O Yisra’el: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
The House of Worship is not our first teacher, yet it remains a vital part of our spiritual foundation, reinforcing lives of prayer, worship, and Torah observance. Whether brick-and-mortar or virtual, it provides a sacred space for realignment, introspection, and renewed focus on the laws, statutes, and judgments of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Israelites are commanded to rest on the seventh day of each week, abstaining from both physical and mental labor, so that their focus may be devoted to spiritual reflection, development, and growth.
This spiritual growth is rooted in the study of the Tanakh. We affirm that true development comes through learning sound approaches to understanding Torah and faithful ways to live its teachings. We measure our success by the peace and clarity we experience, the mercies and blessings evident in our lives, and our ability to meet challenges with resilience and growth.
Congregational Prayers
Congregational prayer holds deep significance as a shared act of worship that unites individuals into a sacred community. Praying together affirms communal responsibility, strengthens collective faith, and fulfills the traditional value of public devotion, where many prayers are elevated through communal recitation.
