About the event
Behar ("on Mount [Sinai]," Leviticus 25:1) and Bechukotai ("in My statutes," Leviticus 26:3) are the names of the two Parshot.
On Mount Sinai, Gβd tells Moses the laws of the Sabbatical year: every seventh year, all agricultural work must cease, and the land's produce becomes freely available to all β people and animals alike.
The Parshah concludes with rules for calculating the value of pledges made to Gβd, and the mitzvah β a divine commandment β of tithing produce and livestock.
