About the event
The Parshah Tzav—meaning “command”—opens in Leviticus 6:2 with a tone of urgency and purpose.
In this portion, G-d instructs Moses to deliver a direct and enduring command to Aaron and his sons, the kohanim (priests). They are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of offering the korbanot—the animal and meal offerings—within the Sanctuary. These instructions don’t just outline ritual duties; they emphasize discipline, devotion, and the continuous service required to maintain a spiritual connection between the people and G-d.
Haftarah
This week’s haftorah returns to the theme of sacrifices—but with a powerful message.
Through the prophet Jeremiah, G-d reminds the people that when He redeemed them from Egypt, His main desire was not offerings, but obedience to His commandments.
Yet they refused to listen. Despite repeated warnings from the prophets, they followed their own stubborn hearts, moving backward instead of forward.
