About the event

Vayakhel ("And he gathered" — Exodus 35:1): Moses gathers everyone together, reminds them to keep the Shabbat, and then shares God's blueprints for the Mishkan (Tabernacle). The people go all in — donating gold, silver, copper, colorful wool, linen, animal skins, wood, oil, herbs, and precious stones. Things got so generous that Moses actually had to tell them to stop donating!

Pekudei ("Amounts of" — Exodus 38:21): Someone had to count all the donations — and this portion does exactly that, tallying up everything donated for the Mishkan. Think of it as the world's oldest building expense report, wrapping up the book of Exodus.
