About the event

Ki Teitzei Summarized

Deuteronomy 21:10–25:19

Ki Teitzei means “when you go out.” Moses gives Israel laws governing family life, marriage, inheritance, sexual conduct, treatment of servants, workers and the poor, and responsibility for lost property. The portion commands fairness toward debtors, prompt payment of workers, honest weights and measures, and concern for public safety.

It also addresses military conduct, divorce, levirate marriage, punishment for wrongdoing, and protection of human dignity. Israel is commanded to show justice and compassion while maintaining obedience to God’s laws.

Ki Teitzei concludes by commanding Israel to remember what Amalek did when attacking the vulnerable during Israel’s journey from Egypt.
