Parashat Pinchas (Numbers 25:10–30:1) – Condensed Summary
Pinchas, the grandson of Aaron, is rewarded for his zealous defense of Yah's honor with a covenant of peace and the everlasting priesthood. A new census counts 601,730 Israelite men eligible for military service. Instructions are given for dividing the Land among the tribes, and the daughters of Tzelafchad successfully petition for their father's inheritance, establishing laws of inheritance. Moses is told that he will not enter the Land and appoints Joshua as his successor. The parashah concludes with instructions for the daily offerings, Shabbat offerings, New Moon offerings, and the offerings for the appointed festivals, including Passover, Shavuot, Yom Teruah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Shemini Atzeret.
